How to leave a legacy and help Wymondham Abbey

What is a legacy?
A legacy is a gift in your Will.
Types of legacies
There are a number of different types of gift to consider:
Pecuniary legacy: This is a gift of a specified sum of money.
Specific bequest: The gift of an asset such as property, shares, etc. Such an asset can be left to the Preservation Trust for subsequent sale or investment.
Residuary gift: The residue of your estate is everything that remains after all the other gifts have been distributed and debts paid. You could leave all or a percentage of the residue to the Preservation Trust.

How do I make a will?

Making a will is a deeply personal matter, and although it is not complicated it can feel daunting. You may have questions about how to do it tax efficiently, the type of legacy you can leave or the benefits available to you and your loved ones.
If you are writing your own will, the following suggested wording would be appropriate:
For a Pecuniary Legacy: I give to the Wymondham Abbey Preservation Trust (Registered Charity Number 1054896) the sum of £ – – and the receipt of the Treasurer or other proper officer of the Trust shall be a complete discharge to my Executors.
For a Residuary Legacy: I give to the Wymondham Abbey Preservation Trust (Registered Charity Number 1054896) – – % of the residue of my estate and the receipt of the Treasurer or other proper officer of the Trust shall be a complete discharge to my Executors.
If you already have a will but would like to include a gift to the Preservation Trust, your solicitor can advise you on making a codicil.
